The purple line shows £1,000 of savings sitting in a bank - it loses 15% of its "buying power" to inflation even though it is earning interest.

The green line is that same £1,000 put to work and invested.

I'm not great with sitting in long meetings and taking in lot's of information, however Leo made this much easier through keeping information simple and using games to keep me actively engaged.

I would highly recommend this course to anyone, as it was simply brilliant.

Thank you so much to Leo for helping me with my finances recently. He was incredibly patient and encouraging, which is not easy because I know absolutely nothing about money! He coached me through setting up savings and investments so that I can plan my finances for my wedding next year - thank you for helping me to have any kind of budget to make that happen!

Confidence increase, guaranteed.

About me

I want you to walk away smiling

Before becoming a maths teacher, I got my qualification and spent a few years working in financial advice. I noticed that most of the clients I saw had little or no knowledge of investing and fully relied on us to help them. Then I learned that most people don't have the luxury of an adviser.

Leo Dennis

Financial literacy isn't taught in schools. Proper financial advice is expensive and inaccessible for most people. That gap bothered me — so I built Real Life Money to do something about it.

Once I became a Maths Teacher, I knew that I now had the potential to really make a difference and combine that with Real Life Money to close the financial knowledge gap. For me, life has always been about people and purpose.

I'm a big believer in learning through enjoyment - so whilst these are serious and important topics, I want to see you walk away smiling - not only because you gained so much, but because you enjoyed yourself along the way.

Your questions, answered

No jargon. No silly questions. Just honest answers.

Is this suitable for complete beginners? +

Absolutely — in fact, this course is designed specifically for people who feel like they know nothing. Most attendees arrive feeling uncertain or even a little embarrassed about how little they know. That's completely normal, and it's exactly why this course exists.

Even if you have a little bit of experience and have dabbled in investing before, you would still get a lot out of this course. It is never a bad thing to have an even better understanding of exactly what you are putting your hard earned cash into.

By the end of the course, you'll have a clear picture of how investing works, what your options are, and how to take your first steps with confidence. No prior knowledge needed whatsoever.

How much money do I need to get started with investing? +

Less than you probably think. Many investment platforms let you start with as little as £1 a month, and some of the most effective long-term strategies involve small, regular contributions rather than large lump sums.

The course will walk you through realistic options at every budget level — whether you have £20 a month or £20,000 sitting in a savings account. The most important thing is understanding how it works, not how much you have to start with.

Will you tell me what to invest in? +

This course is financial education, not financial advice — and that's an important distinction. I won't tell you exactly what to buy, because everyone's situation is different, and recommending specific products is regulated activity that requires an FCA licence.

What I will do is give you the knowledge and tools to make those decisions yourself — confidently and independently. By the end you'll understand what to look for, how to compare options, and how to build a simple strategy that suits you. That's worth far more than being told what to do.

Is investing risky? Could I lose my money? +

Yes — all investing carries some risk, and anyone who tells you otherwise isn't being straight with you. But risk is something you can understand, manage and plan around — and that's a big part of what this course covers.

We'll look at how risk and potential return are linked, why time in the market matters so much, and how to build a simple portfolio that matches your own comfort level. Most people leave realising that doing nothing — keeping all your money in cash — carries its own very real risk too.

What will I actually walk away knowing how to do? +

By the end of the two sessions you'll understand why investing matters, how the main asset classes work, what ISAs and pensions are actually doing for you, and how to explore and compare real investment funds.

More importantly, you'll feel confident enough to open an investment account, make a decision, and actually get started — rather than putting it off for another year. One of my recent attendees said they wished they'd done it 20 years ago. You don't have to feel that way.

Who are you and why should I trust you? +

Fair question. I'm Leo — a secondary school maths teacher and qualified financial adviser. I spent years in financial services realising that only the already wealthy can afford financial advice and most of us just have to muddle through. Inevitably, we either make costly mistakes or we don't take action that could maximise the potential of our money. That gap bothered me, so I built Real Life Money to do something about it.

I always wanted to help people, as I know that gives me most satisfaction in my life. Being a Maths teacher is incredibly rewarding, but Real Life Money was setup to try and help adults navigate this scary and complicated world of personal finance.

I'm not trying to sell you anything. There are no products, no referral fees, no follow-up sales calls. Just two evenings of practical, honest financial education from someone who has seen both sides — the advice industry and the classroom.

How is this different from just watching YouTube videos? +

YouTube is great, but it's also overwhelming — thousands of videos, conflicting advice, no way to ask questions, and no guarantee the person talking actually knows what they're doing.

This course gives you a structured, sequenced learning experience in a small group where you can ask any question you like without feeling judged. Every attendee so far has said that being able to ask questions as we went was one of the most valuable parts. That's something no video can give you.

What does the course actually involve — is it just a lecture? +

Not at all. The sessions are deliberately interactive and practical — think investment simulations, group activities, and hands-on exploration of real platforms and funds, not someone reading off slides at you.

Groups are kept small (maximum 12 people) so there's plenty of time for discussion and questions. The aim is for it to feel more like a conversation than a classroom — approachable, engaging, and genuinely useful.

What if I have questions after the course? +

It's completely natural to have more questions once you start putting things into practice — that's a good sign it's all clicking into place. You're welcome to get in touch by email with general questions after the course.

If you'd like more personalised support, I also offer one-to-one financial education sessions where we can go deeper on your specific situation at your own pace.

How much does it cost and what's included? +

The course is £75 per person for two sessions — that's two evenings of 90 minutes each, in a small group of no more than 12 people.

There are no hidden costs, no upsells, and nothing to buy afterwards. Just straightforward financial education at a price that reflects the fact that this stuff should be accessible to everyone — not just people who can afford a financial adviser.
